Well … what do you think happens … on a balcony … like ours … when the rain falls?
No surprises, really, … if you know me and my habits quite well! hehehe … 😀
The photos below show what happens … whenever the rain falls (heavily or for long stretches) … in fact, they show what is happening right now.
The view from the living room door …
… from the kitchen door!
… and that between the two doors! What a mess, no? But a good sort of mess lah! 🙂
We have had some rainy days for the past week … but not very heavy rain and not for long. (Oh yes, it has been a poor start to summer … so far!) The rain, however, was forecast to fall for most of today … even though it was not forecast to be very heavy. And indeed it is not heavy, but it is continuous.
Sooo … it is a good day for collecting some rain water for my plants … especially since my supply of this good water is running very, very low. In addition, I have pushed the pots and containers that were sheltered by the awning closer to the balcony railing … so as to save myself from having to water any plants at all. Might as well lah!
Even these covers for the dustbins (that I am using to plant my tomato plants) come in handy for collecting water when it rains. We just have to make sure that either the hubby or I will pour the water into the dustbins when they are full and then let them collect some more rain water.
I have not used any tap water to water my plants so far … except for the water I used to wash the vegetables which I had picked from the balcony. It would have been a pity to throw away the water from these washings when it can be recycled to water the plants.
And less you think that the hubby and I are doing all this because water is expensive in Switzerland, not at all. Not with the many mountains, glaciers (from which springs of water run down into the valleys) and lakes that this country has. But why waste water unnecessarily even when it can be had quite cheaply! It is part of our effort for a more environment-friendly and greener way of living … at least, the little bit that we can do lah!
Unfortunately, with the wet weather … comes the chill! It has been a chilly start to summer and I have to put on socks and jumper at home, once again! Arggghh … And the poor seedlings that I had sown at the start of summer … I have no idea how they will fare in this kind of summer weather! Argghh … arghhh!!
Let us hope that this is just a false start to what turns out to be a good summer after all. Well, we can only hope!!
