So from the beautiful parc La Grange, the hubby then made his way along the frozen lakeside on rive gauche (left bank) of Lac Léman to try and snap as many photos as he could of Genève sous la glace (literally, Geneva under the ice). His decision to do so on Valentine’s Day (which was also the first day that the temperature would rise above 0°C since 31 January) … proved prescient … because by the time we made another visit together a few days later (on Saturday) … much of the ice had melted as a result of the rise in temperature.
In fact, even while he was taking some pictures of the Genève-Plage swimming pool from the viewpoint just next to it … he heard several times some cracking sounds which he mistook to be ice broken by humans treading on it. However, as he was able to see while taking pictures of frozen branches … it was actually the noise made by icicles or other lumps of ice falling to the ground!
So I am glad that the hubby took these photos for me … so that I could see and enjoy them … and share them on this blog, too, of course!
Ok, hope you will enjoy these photos of Genève sous la glace that I have selected …
As usual, just pass the pointer of your mouse on a photo to display the location details.
Valentine’s Day was the first day in two weeks to see the thermometer climb above zero, thus allowing Geneva’s icon, le Jet d’eau (the water sprout), to be switched back on … so I guess the hubby’s decision to go on a photo-taking session on that day proved to be a good one because one seldom has the opportunity to take pictures of the frozen lakeside with Jet d’eau on, according to the hubby.
I think these should be enough for now lah! I will share the ones that the hubby took just before coming home in the next entry.
Other entries on frozen Lac Léman:

This is always a subjective matter, no? Furthermore, not all parts of a country will be beautiful. Anyhow, as there is still some ice left along the lakeside (I ran from Jetée des Eaux-Vives to Genève-Plage à midday, Friday 24 February, I urge you to do the same to enjoy the beautiful scenery. The hubby.
Marvellous icy shapes are the storyteller of our country, but is our country really as beautiful as those wonderful ice shapes ??
Yes, some of the shapes and patterns of the ice, including the dome shape, are just incredible!
